Marilyn Reminisces
Monroe was one of Hollywood’s most endearing, and enduring, iconic figures. She was the true embodiment of the Movie Star/Sex Symbol, despite her many personal struggles. I’ve represented her, here, as if she is daydreaming out her window, surrounded by what could be Hollywood street lights (created in bold oil colors, by my hand). The frame of the “window” is decorated with feminine 1950s-style pom pom fringe, and a few touches of actual rhinestones (one of Marilyn’s most often used costume jewelry accents). Marilyn Monroe has been an artistic inspiration to me, most of my life, having grown up in Southern California in the years after her tragic death in 1962.
